History
Shiverers Swimming club has a long and successfull history the club starting in 1920 (see potted history). We cater for beginners through to competitive, national and international standard swimmers, with training sessions available six days a week, for our competitive swimmers.Training Venues
Today the club makes use of four pools. We are based at the King Alfred Leisure Centre in Hove, but also have great use of Lancing College and Brighton College swimming pools. Sessions are also booked at K2 in Crawley for long course training.Masters Swimming
Flick Hague is the Masters representative and can be contacted by email on Masters@shiverers.co.uk .She writes below. ‘ It is encouraging that Masters coming to Shiverers are growing rapidly with the majority swimming at the King Alfred and a few going to Lancing College . I believe that the new fee structure will yet inspire people to attend more sessions and to get the best value for their money. Regular training produces better swimmers and soon we will have more people wanting to compete. It is necessary to be a member of the A.S.A. to compete in galas, except the Sussex County Championships and this costs £17.50. This is also necessary to swim sea races such as the Pier to Pier. See the Calendar Page for details of Meets and Sea Races.Swim Groups
Swimmers are separated within the club by standard, irrespective of age.
We have two learner groups and two improver groups which we call badges. 1 star, 2 stars, 3, 4 and 5 stars then follow this.
Progress to the next group for the learners is by a regular
review process undertaken by the teachers, and progression to the next
group is at their discretion. For badges upwards monthly testing takes
place on the last Friday of each month, during a swimmer’s normal
session. The club has found this group system works well, with swimmers
of a similar standard keeping together and not becoming disillusioned
by being in a group of vastly different standards.
